MSNBC Bows to the Far Right and Fires Matthew Dowd
One story not getting enough attention, is the firing of MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd last week. Evidence is mounting that MSNBC, similar to ABC and CBS, have bowed to the far right contingent after firing Dowd when he made comments (opinions – for which he was hired, by the way) following the shooting of Charlie Kirk. In the interview. Dowd explains what happened behind the scenes. And it should disturb you, as it appears we have another mainstream media outlet bowing to the right. See the interview on YouTube here:
Katie Couric Interviews Matthew Dowd
Opinion
Before Jimmy Kimmel was suspended by ABC, Matthew Dowd, a well-known political pundit on MSNBC was unceremoniously fired for his comments/opinions about Charlie Kirk, within moments of a shooting being reported at the university Kirk was speaking at, Utah Valley University. At the time Dowd made his comments, as he explains in the interview above, no one knew even who was shot. Just that a shot was fired. The outcome of the shooting was most certainly not known for over an hour after Dowd appeared in studio, on camera and made his comments.
What supposedly egregious thing did Dowd say? He said this: “Hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and then not expect awful actions to take place.”
Afterward, people on the right tried to frame Dowd’s comments by saying Dowd said Kirk “deserved it”. As usual, with the far right, this is a LIE. Dowd never said that. It wasn’t until the far right’s fake outrage over Dowd’s comments began to filter out to MSNBC that MSNBC made the decision to BTK (bend the knee) and fire Dowd – even after Dowd provided a requested apology.
We are keeping a close eye on MSNBC. Like the rest of the legacy media (CBS/Paramount, ABC/Disney, Washington Post, etc…) they appear to be afraid of the far right in this country and will sacrifice free speech in exchange for favor from the right and the Trump administration.
