Opinion
ABC/Disney’s decision to allow Kimmel to resume his late-night hosting duties rings as hollow to us. The damage has been done. ABC chose to BTK (bend the knee) to a dictator and to the FCC, allowing those two entities to stifle free speech and impinge on the first amendment rights of every American. This is not the first instance of ABC/Disney BTK to Trump. They did so several months ago when they chose to settle a frivolous lawsuit filed by Trump, instead of fighting it. It was far easier for them to appease a wanna-be dictator at that moment, than to fight.
Now, likely losing millions of dollars from canceled streaming subscriptions, ABC/Disney have done an about-face and decided the financial cost has been detrimental to the company. Make no mistake about it. This is only about money and profits to ABC/Disney. It’s not about protecting the first amendment. We recommend a continued boycott of ABC/Disney content unless and until they, in writing, (1) commit in writing to no longer BTK to the Trump administration to incur favor with a wanna-be dictator, (2) prominently and unambiguously state that going forward they will work to protect the first amendment rights of Americans, and (3) state publicly that no additional restrictions have been placed on Jimmy Kimmel or any other employee of ABC/Disney that will stifle their free speech.
